Determined to Break the Seige on Gaza<\/em> resulted in PGPF sailing The Spirit of Rachel Corrie<\/strong> aka MV FINCH<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0<\/strong> with medical aid and sewerage pipes as cargo. Shots were fired at the ship and was\u00a0 nearly hijacked by Israeli navy on Palestinian waters.<\/p>

The ship was then taken to Port El-Arish, Egypt and the passengers were escorted by the Egyptian army to the Rafah border on land.\u00a0 It took almost 2 years with UN support for the supplies and sewage pipes to be taken into Gaza due to Israeli blockade and restrictions.<\/p>

Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad mooted the idea of a flotilla during a discussion with other international activists in Cyprus. The 3 ships sponsored by PGPF were The Rachel Corrie<\/em><\/strong>, Challenger i<\/em><\/strong> and Challenger ii <\/strong><\/em>which sailed as part of the Freedom Flotilla to Gaza<\/em>.<\/p>

Carrying aid supplies, the ships together with other international NGO ships attempted to Break the Siege <\/em>on Gaza<\/strong>. Among the ships that had sailed was the Mavi Marmara which was attacked by Israeli forces and resulted in the murder of 10 unarmed activists. All the ships and passengers on board were forced to land and taken custody in Ashdod.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Two volunteers drove an ambulance loaded with medical supplies from London to Gaza sponsored by Perdana Global Peace Organisation (PGPO)* in collaboration with Viva Palestina UK. Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad chaired PGPO and raised funds for the programme.<\/p>

The 110 vehicle convoy delivering over \u00a31 million worth of aid drove a 5,000-mile route passing through France, Spain, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya and Egypt.<\/p>
