Israeli forces shot and injured a Palestinian woman in the Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood of occupied East Jerusalem, the Palestinian WAFA news agency reported on Sunday, citing local sources.
The woman, said to be in her sixties, was shot at a light rail station in the area after Israeli forces accused her of attempting a stabbing attack.
Videos posted to social media purportedly show Israeli forces violently shoving and restraining the woman, who appears to be on her knees and her clothes are bloodied.
The woman’s condition is not known.
Israeli forces and settlers have been given the green light by Israeli authorities to open fire on suspected Palestinian attackers, which has also led to the deaths of civilians.
In January, Israeli forces shot Ahmad Kahla dead in front of his son at a checkpoint north of Ramallah. Israeli authorities later made a rare admission that Kahla’s death was “unnecessary”, after previously claiming that there was a “violent confrontation” during which Kahla allegedly “attempted to take hold of one of the soldiers’ weapons”.
Israeli forces and settlers have killed at least 190 Palestinians this year.
